Basically, it's not a beginner or user-friendly tool. And you should have some experience with rclone and its idiosyncrasies (itself and with respect to different remotes). If you know a little python, setup will be even easier. And you have to be at least comfortable with the command line. It is what I use instead of Dropbox to keep my files in sync but it really not a replacement. ![]() You can then work on your files and run it again to sync changes. Microsoft OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) is a file hosting service and synchronization service operated by Microsoft as part of its web version of Office. Then it does bonafide two-way sync (with move tracking, automatic backups, etc). You have to call it (via the terminal) to sync up. If you use something encrypted (which I do recommend), then it is harder to access remotes but more secure. It is able to create complete and differentials backups of your site, manually or automatically through the built-in scheduler and back them up to Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage. ![]() If you use an unencrypted B2 remote, you can access your files from mobile too with Goosi on iOS. XCloner Backup and Restore is an open-source plugin for backing up WordPress. I even have a walkthrough of setting it up. It can use rclone as a backend which means it can work on B2. Now, it is very much not going to be the same experience, but I wrote a two-way file sync tool for macOS (which I presume you use since you said "Finder") and Linux. It is synced local copies and not a remote copy. That to me is the best thing Dropbox (and the like) offer. It works but have very real limitations.Īnd, more importantly, if you are away from an internet connection, you do not have access to your files. Find how Duplicator Pro and ExpanDrive fare against each other in the Backup And Recovery industry. It is that you are using B2 in a bit of a hack. See below for some expanded Linux / macOS instructions. Optionally configure automatic execution. ![]() Extract the rclone executable, rclone.exe on Windows, from the archive. And renames are a copy+delete on B2's backend (or, if they weren't updated with the new API, they are download+delete+upload). Rclone is a Go program and comes as a single binary file. Operations will be very slow since it has to do it in cache. Those tools make a fake drive with the storage backend. What you're trying to do with a presumably mounted version of B2 is a step in that direction but it is really not the same. B2 is the kind of backend storage platform you would use to write your own dropbox replacement! Dropbox does a lot on their servers and in their apps to give you the fast change propagation and then use an object store as the backend (They used to use AWS, I think they use a homegrown one now).
